Heroes & Villains

​Dozens of my contemporaries have asked about my tour experiences at the Auschwitz concentration camps. The comments are similar. I have only read about Auschwitz; I've never met anyone who's been there. What was it like? 

A common thread among family, friends, and neighbors, is that they have read survivor accounts and memoirs, or watched movies and documentaries. It is not just about Auschwitz the place, or its history, objects, or artifacts that spur interest and concern. It is the human connection, one that evokes emotion, horror, empathy, and conversation.

The horrors of Auschwitz touched the lives and souls of millions and continues to do so eighty (80) years later. Humans devised the Final Solution, humans implemented it, humans carried out (or were an accessory to) its atrocities; some humans tried to help and millions of humans suffered and died.

The Heroes and Villains section will include stories to help travelers visualize and internalize the human connection that weaves together the human actions that inspired evil, wickedness, survival, hope, care, compassion, love, persistence, despair and death.
